Volleyball Team Looks to Rebound After Tough Start in Tournament

The volleyball team is looking to rebound after a tough showing in the Route 92 tournament. Going 0-4 in the tournament, Coach Annaloro and the team are ready to put it behind them and move on.

“Overall I felt our team played pretty well. I was impressed with our incoming class of freshmen… they have a lot of potential. Our returners, as always, were strong” Even the strong performance of sophomore Dominique Tarrant was not enough to capture a win in the tournament for the Argonauts.

Coach Annaloro feels her team is ready to turn the corner. “Our team is hungry and ready for a win. We are going to come back on monday ready to work hard and start a new week.”

The volleyball team has a lot of fresh new faces this year. With all the new recruits, the team is looking to have a rebound season. This season, the volleyball team boasts a large 19 player roster. This is the by far the largest the roster has been in the past few seasons.

I caught up with Junior Sarah Rodriguez, who thinks the large roster makes practices and inter-squads a lot more competitive than past seasons. “This year’s team is a lot different than teams in the past… We have a really strong freshmen class. Probably the strongest recruitment of girls we’ve had in awhile. We definitely have a good sense of family. We all try to support each other on and off the court. We all understand obviously all 19 players can’t be out there.”

Rodriguez says that so far, the large roster has worked to the Argonauts advantage. “I think having a large roster definitely helps us. It changes our practice dynamic. Instead of just doing small drills we can now scrimmage. The large roster allows us to try a bunch of different lineups at practice so we can see what will work in the game.”

After coming off of an injury, Sarah Rodriguez has one goal in mind for this season. “My personal goal for this year is to get back from my injury so I can come back strong again. I want to try really hard to get back out there and help bring in a winning season.”

With help from the several new players, the Argonauts look to get back on track quickly.
