The Notre Dame De Namur Men’s Soccer team have officially started their season. They have played 2 games and are currently 1-1. They have many key returners coming back: senior goal keeper Jay Tsuroka, 2013 Pac West defender of the year; junior, Tyler Matas as well as junior mid-fielder Omar Herrera. With those three leading the way the Argos have high expectations this coming year. With the addition of nine new players the Argos are going to need to build team chemistry quickly if they want to meet their team goals.
In their first match the Argos beat Cal State Monterey Bay 2-0, with two first half goals coming form freshman Esteban Berumen.
When asked about how he felt he played in his first collegiate game Berumen said, “I thought it went well, I was fortunate enough that my teammates were able to put me in a good position to score but more importantly I’m really happy we came away with the win.”
The Argos second game was against Cal State Stanislaus. It was a defensive battle throughout both halves with Stanislaus managing a late goal in the second half earning them the victory.
When junior striker Jack Ewert was asked about the game he replied with, “It was a tough game both teams played well, it was just too bad we couldn’t come away with the win.”
The Argos next 2 games are this coming Saturday, September 13th and Monday September 15th in Seattle, Washington. They look to get two big wins against Seattle Pacific University and Western Washington University.
