The Notre Dame De Namur University men’s soccer team took their final road trip of the season this past weekend. It was a rough trip for the Argos who lost both games. They came up short against Point Loma University losing 0-1 as well as losing a tough game to Cal Baptist 3-2.
Oct. 30 – The first match against Point Loma was a long defensive battle. The Argos only took 15 shots in the double overtime loss. Point Loma, took 17 shots but the last one was all they needed to come away with the 1-0 victory.
“It was tough game, I thought were played pretty well but it came down to that last free kick and they hit it,” said junior defender Tyler Matas.
Nov. 1- In the second match against Cal Baptist, the Argos came out slow in the first half. Cal Baptist was able to score late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The Argos turned it around in the beginning of the second half scoring twice, one goal coming from junior striker Jack Ewert and freshman midfielder Oscar Ledesma. It looked good for the Argos but Cal Baptist came charging back with two goals of their own taking back the lead 3-2. Cal Baptist was able to hang on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
“Cal Baptist is a good team, once you have a lead on a good team we can’t make some of the mistakes we did to let them back in the game. Its tough to play from behind especially against good teams,” Ewert said.
The Argos next match is their last one of the season. They play Academy of Art University Nov. 8 at AAU.
