Volleyball Season Recap by Tristan Alvarado

With the volleyball season over it is time for a season recap.  The lady Argos went (10-17) overall.  At home they were (5-9) and in the PacWest conference they went (8-12).

A highlight and huge stand out player on the team was Bianca Alvarez.  Alvarez was named Argonaut of the month for September and was PacWest player of the week twice.  She ended the season being the number one player in the nation for most kills, which was an average of (5.26) and points, which was (5.83).  Alvarez ended her junior season as PacWest player of the year.  She is the first lady Argo to win PacWest volleyball player of the year.  In 16 games she had over 20 kills and on three different occasions she had games that were she recorded over 30 kills.  “I won’t be forgetting this season anytime soon.  I thank my teammates and coaches to where I am at.  I couldn’t of done any of this without them and we will be ready to come as a force for next season.”  Said Alvarez.

Another memorable game that the lady Argos had happened on senior day against Chaminade.  Chaminade being a very heavy favorite against the Argonauts ended up getting swept in three games by the Argos.  Before the win over Chaminade the Argos had two seniors that had to be honored.  First was libero Carina Quintero who appeared in 25 matches as a freshman and earned the team’s Argonaut award. And second was outside hitter Dominique Tarrant who started in 24 matches as a freshman and finished second on the team for kills 271.

“This year was very up and down for the lady Argos.  I think we made great strides towards a positively improving the culture of the program.  I’m glad our ladies played like a team from start to finish.  It has me very excited for a great off season and a great season next year.  I’m sure we will continue our successes next season!”  Said assistant coach Damion Hardy on his thoughts for the season.  With the nation’s leading killer on the Argos side for one more season it will be very interesting to see how next year plays in favor for our Argos.
